I’m guessing there’s now a huge amount of panic in Europe with the realization that Trump is most likely to get elected. I’d also argue that US policy will be to deprioritize Europe regardless of who gets in. Now that they lost the proxy war in Ukraine, I expect US will double down on trying to maintain presence in Asia. Europe is just not a core interest at this point because US sees China as their main competitor.
US was hoping to get a regime change in Russia and balkanize it as the best case scenario, but the second objective was to ensure that Europe wouldn’t become integrated into an economic bloc with Russia and China. They got that accomplished now, and there’s no more reason to keep pouring resources into Europe.
