It’s not going anywhere. I’m sure like 90% of people there don’t care at all what is happening. Probably more than 90, considering that about 5% used third party apps.
I wonder if theres a different spread for users who post content. Do 3rd party app users tend to create more content than users on the official app? Desktop?
I am sure Reddit has done this analysis and figured it’d be fine to kill 3rd party apps

If I can’t use a 3rd party app, I’m done. Their own UX is terrible.
