Hamas is the sovereign government of Gaza.

And that’s why Israel is genociding them all.

They’re the only party with any control in Gaza, so that’s not really comparable to a Republican trifecta. Republicans still form coalitions and engage in power sharing even when they have a majority, because they’ve never had absolute total domination of the political scene.

Thanks to the Palestinian Authority being too scared of a total Hamas takeover to hold elections, Hamas is effectively Gaza’s government.

Okay, fine. As the only Party with power in a State that can’t hold elections, they are the government. In a one party state, the ruling party is sovereign. And if there were elections? They’d only gain power in other parts of Palestine.

And that’s why Israel wants genocide in the Gaza Strip.

            Why are you being difficult?

Tell that to Israel, because they’re going to ethnically cleanse the Gaza Strip because they seem to think differently.

Which was my overall point anyway.

As for me not wanting Hamas, does it matter what I want? My ancestors were genocided a long time ago, I’m white passing and my country doesn’t hunt people like me down anymore. I don’t have any right to tell the people of Gaza who their government should be.

I’m explaining why it’s not my place to tell the people of Gaza how to resist Israeli occupation, colonization, and genocide. If they support Hamas, that’s their business. It’s not my place to tell them they shouldn’t. It’s my place to support their resistance.

And no, saying Hamas is the government is still pretty accurate. Hamas isn’t part of the government, they’re the whole thing. There’s no one else. I do not see a difference between a one-party state and the state itself. The party is the state.

And if Israel succeeds in exterminating Hamas, they’ll also be exterminating Gaza. Which, again, is what’s actually important in this conversation.
