Even without sun, recording a video with any modern android phone causes a ton of heat. While this feature is super cool, it seems like a battery killer to me.

Maybe we will never see it publicly release, though. Or maybe Google is developing it because they made a breakthrough in Tensor 3 and it’ll run cool as a cucumber 😉

Either way, it’s cool to see companies at least attempt new things, even if they aren’t ready for prime time.

I think, it’ll come and go to the google graveyard in a year or so.

How cool would it be to see them release a dedicated Pixel Dashcam with Google assistant to change settings, flag important sections, and save clips? It could have AI to detect things, so you could search clips for “bicycle” or “pink car” to jump to those spots in the clip. They could release an app that syncs the clips reliably* to your Android/iPhone, as well as make a LTE/5G version to upload clips to the cloud. Or add an option to sync to a folder in Google Photos for easy storage/sharing. It could have GPS logging with Google Maps, too.

They could release a capacitor version to get rid of battery concerns, and the device could be filled with heat sinks instead of battery to help with heat concerns.

Could genuinely be a good product. I am an avid dashcam user, and all dashcams out there suck so much. Mine has an app to connect to it to retrieve clips, but transfer speeds are so slow, it takes a good 30-45 minutes to get a 10 minute clip off it. Mine logs GPS, but requires a weird third party tool on PC to view a live map of it.
