A study explored suicide rate trends among 13 to 14 year olds from 1999 to 2018. Findings show rates more than doubled from 2008 to 2018 and suggest key roles of social media, school stress and firearms.
Truly sucks to hear, even wilder having a general understanding why this is the case. I’d be curious to see how other age groups compare to teenagers over this time period. Also wondering how lockdown impacted the numbers.
I imagine isolation during the lockdowns has been extra hard for teenagers, and just seeing the world fall apart around you probably doesn’t help things.
