I wonder how trauma affects the attraction some people have towards children. I believe that being exposed to child pornography is traumatic for most people. Maybe people grow up to accept these images as erotic because they never received a proper sexual education that teaches how harmful the material is and what it actually shows (a child being sexually abused).
It’s an interesting thing to research why these people are attracted to minors, and how and when it developed.
Most paraphilia disorders (disorders that cause inappropriate sexual behavior like voyeurism, exhibitionisme or pedophilia) are believed to be caused by trauma, abuse, lack of proper neurological development etc.
A question that can be researched is how many of the people that are pedophiles are one because of the causes mentioned above. I think it would require different kinds of approach to treatment versus people that have pedophile tendencies without proper explanation (i.e. being born with a certain preference). The data on the latter seems to be hard to collect due to taboo.
