I have read that book, and it claims that people will just spontaneously organise when the revolution happens. But I know from my own experience that organising is hard work, and takes a lot of time. At least the level of organisation that is necessary to defeat an invasion from a capitalist army. After the Russian revolution, the country was invaded by a coalition army of 11 countries. The only way to defeat such a force was with an army of their own, which required a state to function. History has shown that Anarchism is not able to withstand this kind of aggression, precisely because rejects the state.
The important point is that the state is a tool which can be wielded by the bourgeoisie or by the working class. Or in other words, the only way to beat a bad guy with a state is a good guy with a state.
Kropotkin disregarded Engels and Marx very easily in The Conquest of Bread because of theor ridiculous support of state power.
