I don’t think it was inevitable that humanity had to go down the path it did. There is a reciprocal relationship between the individual and the society. We act differently depending on how we structure our society, and our collective actions drive the evolution of our society.

One of the core problems with structuring the society around capitalism is that capitalism inherently encourages egoism. People see their own interest as being at odds with the interests of others, and people who act selfishly are rewarded by the system.

I think we need to structure our society in a way where people see their individual interests aligned with the interests of the majority leading to cooperative behaviours towards common good.

That’s not inherent to capitalism, humans are greedy no matter the system.

Yeah, same point here, humans are greedy. If you mentally drill down to the core problem (greed) and to the core solutions you’ll probably come up with either 1. annihilation of all humans (no more greed, no more suffering, etc…) or genetic engineering.

My point was that it’s possible to have a system where personal interest aligns with common interest. The problem with capitalism is that it creates conditions where personal interest is at odds with that.

Humans can be greedy, but you can create an environment where that’s channelled productively.
