Summary

A federal judge blocked Tennessee’s age verification law for adult websites, ruling it likely violates First Amendment rights without effectively preventing minors’ access.

The law, which required sites to verify users’ ages via ID or data checks, faced criticism for being overly broad and potentially criminalizing innocuous content.

Tennessee’s attorney general is appealing, as similar laws take effect in states like Florida and South Carolina, while others are contested in courts.

The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments on Texas’ comparable law on Jan. 15.

“In America sex is an obsession. In the rest of the world it is a fact.” -Marlene Dietrich

This is one of those timeless american issues that I’ve always despised our lack of progress with. It seems these regulations are always pushed by some closeted hypocrite who turns out to be everything they claim to despise. Good on this judge, though.
