Petition to restart !leopardsatemyface@lemmy.world, by the way.

Every time I make the mistake of visiting that sub, I want to smack the mod who locked it. I don’t even know if his grievances were legit, but clearly the only people he’s hurting are the folks who would like to post to the sub.

Edit: Are .world Admins aware? Do they have a position on the situation? Do they give a crap? Anyone know?

Here’s the beautiful thing about Lemmy and the Fediverse as the whole: Anyone could be a pioneer and create another leopardatemyface community–even in another instance different from lemmy.world. I saw the mod’s explanation of locking this community and I think it’s a legitimate reason cuz many of us running away from Reddit at least wants something different from the userbase and moderating culture there and .world instance failed to provide it.

Also, I think the .world Admins are aware, and that they have a position on the situation, and most likely they don’t give a crap. That’s why like I said, any dissenting users could create yet another similar community and try to lure others in to subscribe to it.

most likely they don’t give a crap.

We do, a little. But we also can’t manually curate the entire instance. For things like this, it really helps if someone comes and talks to us, especially if they’re willing to volunteer.

I don’t think that was a legitimate reason to lock the sub. Often, when you disagree with someone, you can use words instead of mod/admin tools. And that mod created an obvious strawman to rage against. They wanted much heavier moderation than we typically do, and I don’t think we’re extremely light on moderation.

Not every problem needs to be solved with mod/admin tools. Absolutely nobody said rape was okay.

“Rape is less severe than normal” is not such a dangerous opinion that mods/admins need to get involved. If you are offended and/or disagree, that’s what your words are for.

I encourage mods to use words instead of mod tools whenever possible.
