You may have tried to reach midwest.social a few times recently and noticed that the site times out or takes a long time to load. I did some investigating today and found that a process, kswapd0, sometimes goes nuts and consumes almost 100% of the cpu. I’ll continue to work on getting this fixed. If you have any ideas why this may be happening let me know. This instance is running an Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

So far I’ve tried changing vm.swappiness to 0 meaning that unless 100% of RAM is used then don’t use swap.

Here is the solution I found that advised this: https://askubuntu.com/questions/259739/kswapd0-is-taking-a-lot-of-cpu

Thank you all for your patience.

Def add some swap if you haven’t already. Its also kinda unavoidable that you may need to up the ram amount on the box. Lemmy doesn’t use much but if you’re running other things, it could be an issue.
