Well that’s the problem. The article does not provide any evidence that workers migrating out a Xinjiang are being forced to do so. They just assume that based on their presumption that there is forced labor in Xinjiang. It’s a logical house of cards I suspect they’ve constructed to justify their own job as a lobbyist.
Well this is why I think Deng was right to ensure the CPC maintained leadership within the PRC rather than pursue political liberalization alongside economic liberalization. The CPC may not be perfect. However, I do believe their structures allow them to course correct as needed and advance capable members into leadership.
That’s why I think they were even able to pull back when Deng’s reforms went to far. It’s also why I think they’ve been able to address corruption and uneven development under Xi.
Idk I think the Sino Soviet split was pretty disastrous and is partially to blame for the fall of the USSR. Even if Khrushchev was wrong to denounce Stalin, there were reasons why Soviet leadership was trying to lower tensions with the west. It’s also not like allying with Nixon and Pol Pot was genuinely a better move geopolitically.
As far as I’m aware there were border skirmishes prior to China’s invasion. However, there was a context for that. The Sino-Soviet split led to China becoming very suspicious of Vietnam’s motives since they maintained good relations with the USSR. As such, China supported the Khmer Rouge in order to gain influence in the region.
I don’t have to explain why that was a huge mistake. However for context, Vietnam was forced to invade Cambodia after the Khmer Rouge crossed the border and massacred thousands of Vietnamese civilians. As a consequence Chinese leadership basically believed they had been encircled by the USSR and its allies. IIRC there was a troop buildup at the border as China tried to incite rebellion from ethnic minorities including ethnic Chinese within Vietnam. This is the context for the border skirmishes and the eventual invasion.
The accusation is that workers are being forcibly transferred by the Chinese government. That’s very different from the government supporting workers who want to voluntarily relocate within China to where the jobs are.
What evidence is there to indicate this is a consequence of forced labor? If the industries in Xinjiang that produced for export were sanctioned by the US, it makes sense that they would have to relocate. The people who worked for such industries would have to relocate as well if they wanted to keep their jobs. This accusation only makes sense if you make the absurd presumption that forced labor was essential to Xinjiang’s export economy.
I’m not sure I would call him vindicated. He definitely bought into some of the free market economics of the 1980s which could have ended really badly. Reform and opening up only really succeeded because the Chinese government was willing to slow the pace of reform when Deng was pushing them to move faster. He also had China invade Vietnam which was a huge L.
It stands for Democratic Socialists of America. They’re a member run left wing political group which grew rapidly after Bernie’s 2016 run. AOC is a member and up until recently she had maintained the endorsement of the national organization. After her surprise win in the 2018 primary, she has not been actively involved with DSA. As such, this outcome isn’t all that surprising.

This is why media literacy is important. If you knew how media outlets operate it would be easy to figure out what happened in this case.

To be clear there are well informed critiques of Marx out there. However, you’re incapable of making those arguments because you have no idea what the man actually said. At some point people do not actually become happier from additional wealth. If you create a system where people are allowed more than that you are just giving them power over vast quantities of resources for no particular reason. It becomes an incentive only for those whose lust for more cannot be satiated and is anti democratic by it’s very nature.

Personally speaking I don’t think the wealthy elite of the US will back a fascist coup anytime soon. In all the history of fascism, it’s usually only been supported by the powers that be when said powers are threatened by an organized radical left. No such left really exists in the US. Until that time, I expect nothing to fundamentally change about the slow decline of the US and the two party system.
What you’re feeling is totally normal. Dating is stressful and scary and your emotions can feel all over the place at times. Tell them up front that flirting can be stressful or scary for you and that sometimes you’ll need a little space to feel safe again.
