Lisp@programming.dev•Why I Still Reach for Scheme and Lisp Instead of Haskell
6·6 months agoThank you! As a Haskell programmer I really appreciated this perspective.
I have been meaning to pick up Scheme sometime, and this gives me extra motivation!

JavaScript@programming.dev•Why I don't chain everything in JavaScript anymore
6·6 months agoOne can definitely go overboard with this, though. I have had to read a lot of code where someone broke something up into several functions that only had the effective of forcing me to constantly bounce around all over source file to figure out what was going on without improving clarity at all.

JavaScript@programming.dev•Why I don't chain everything in JavaScript anymore
51·6 months agoUgh, I absolutely hate reading code with a ton of variables that are only used once, because each introduction of a variable is a new thing that I have to first parse and then track to figure out what it does. I would much rather read a pipeline that expresses what is going on concisely without introducing extraneous elements. In particular, I thought that the pipeline at the start of the article was perfectly clear and did not need any of the subsequent modifications.

5·7 months agoWhat a weird false dichotomy. A planet with well over 7 Billion people can do at least two things at once.
You are correct in general, but one cannot do two things at once when the first thing is (at least, arguably) a necessary prerequisite to the second thing.

Programming@programming.dev•Stop generating, start thinking
5·8 months agoThe other thing he [emphasis mine] got wrong is “prompt complexity/coaxing”.
She, actually.
It is worth noting that the more fundamental thing going on here is that abstract syntax trees are the general way in which programs are represented after being parsed, rather than this being something specific to Lisp. What makes Lisp interesting is essentially that it uses a notation that makes the underlying AST incredibly explicit.

You have probably (deservedly!) blocked me by now, but in case you have not, I apologize from my other comment. Apparently the standard you all have in the lemmy.ml memes community is different from other memes communities, so what looked to me like you were posting a meme that was completely inappropriate was a complete misunderstanding on my part. I have unsubscribed from this community to preclude the possibility of future misunderstandings.
Ah, I only just now noticed that this post was made in the lemmy.ml memes community, which is very different in the kinds of posts that it has than most communities that call themselves “memes” communities. Personally I think that you all have awful taste, but taste is subjective so I withdraw my objection that this particular meme is trash.
I was about to unsubscribe, but curiously I don’t seem to currently be subscribed to it, which is odd because it definitely appeared on my front page at one point; if that is because the admin kicked me out, then I would like to kindly thank them.
Just so you know, since you are apparently now going to start spamming the meme community with trash, you have become one of a select few on my block list.

Because no one else belongs to a state and so calling ourselves “statesians” is therefore better?

Also, all hardware components are hot-swappable.
