I think that one thing that is worth considering is whether the plans you have are future proof. The Fediverse and open source model means that at least the discussions can be easily preserved.

Open sourcing also means that the community can more easily design scripts to archive information.

The image hosting is a separate issue, but again you should have a view towards the future and the possible preservation.

It’s the same issue with individuals who use Google or Apple for cloud storage of their images. At some point the convenience needs to be considered in light of the lack of power for preservation.

And one kbin one. The kbin interface is really the best is far.

I have Mlem as an iOS app for lemmy but it’s pretty rough. For now kbin provides the best interface on a browser.

I think we’re guilty of thinking that the number of people who think the way we do is larger than it is.

I don’t think that this is going to mean much to Reddit over the short to medium term. They literally have hundreds of millions of users. Reddit’s death will probably be slow, maybe in the same way as Facebook.

Honestly, I think the best hope for the fediverse is something like Hackernews or Stack Exchange…a robust community using a viable or future-proof platform.
