There’s not much you can do personally other than avoiding mosquito-prone areas and wearing proper clothing.

Municipalities and other governing bodies can implement mosquito control programs though if residents feel they would benefit from reducing the mosquito populations. WNv isn’t a huge threat in Canada yet, it’s much more prevalent in the United states, so most mosquito programs up here are to control them for nuisance for more enjoyable summers, tourism and business, outdoor labourers and farmworkers, etc.

I work in mosquito control and it’s a pretty safe product that’s used, no aerial spraying of chemicals in our area it’s just targeting the larval stage of mosquitos by applying a bacteria which kills pretty much only mosquitos or black flies. Leaves everything else untouched.

Places like roadside catch basins can produce a lot of the mosquitos that transmit WNv, just sampled a townhome complex the other week and found that pretty much every one of their 30 catch basins were producing over 1000 mosquitos, likely on a weekly basis for months.

If you feel a mosquito control program is needed residents need to contact their municipal or regional representatives to get the process started. You may already have one going as well, where you may be able to get any stagnant water on your property treated for free (depending on the program). A lot of people don’t even know their city has a mosquito control program, even ones which have been going for 20+ years.

I keep hearing people say this but does anyone have a reason why they believe Harris will be tougher on Israel than Biden was? I haven’t seen any sort of indication that she will other than a few words in a speech, despite Biden having been very soft on Israel.

If Ohio voted 15% blue last election and then votes 25% blue this election, that’s significant information that tells people there may be momentum for change.

There may not be a chance of winning this election , but every vote tells people what people want.

If you don’t vote, Ohio will always look like it will only ever vote red.

Perhaps trump should pay for his secret service defence as he doesn’t give america anything.

There’s not much competition, they can’t make more money to increase shareholder value by improving the product because they pretty much have all the marketshare they need.

The only way to make more money is by monetizing your data and selling you more and more ads. Which they will do more and more year after year since they need to increase profits year after year for shareholders.

At least it prevents people getting a 20-30% increase one year

I imagine there are a bunch of conservatives who dislike trump, especially ones whose family members have been completely sucked into the cult.

I mean, I know trump is just an idiot repeating things he’s been told or has heard somewhere on repeat but there is something credible to that idea.

It’s the one downside in my opinion to protected areas and parks. No one is allowed to do anything in them that is seen as unnatural. I wouldn’t suggest logging a park but selectively removing and cleaning up debris / dead trees should definitely be a thing.

They are a giant fire hazard.

A natural forest has regular fires to clear out the underbrush and dead debris. Parks never allow fires to occur and that dead debris builds up to a point that if a fire did happen, absolutely nothing would survive the heat whereas smaller more regular fires would allow for some of the older and stronger trees to survive and repopulate, depending on the forest ecosystem.

Many of the rules in the Bible/Quran are literally just helpful advice to avoid sickness, death, and hardship when living in basically the dark ages and should not have any bearing in modern living.

Don’t eat pork? Because pigs were riddled with parasites up until modern farming.

Don’t mix fabrics? Harder to wash properly.

Wash your hands before praying? It’s a good idea to regularly wash your hands, if you’re going to pray every day might as well use it to remind yourself to wash at the same time

So on and so on. If there is a god I highly doubt they care if you do these things if you can avoid disease/dying etc.
