Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley on Thursday blamed a Democrat “plant” as the cause of an embarrassing exchange during a town hall in which she failed to mention slavery when asked about the causes of the Civil War.

The former South Carolina governor was roundly criticized for her answer at the event in New Hampshire on Wednesday in which she claimed the conflict was about “how government was going to run” and “the freedoms and what people could and couldn’t do.”

In an apparent effort to quell the backlash, Haley used a radio appearance Thursday morning to clarify her beliefs—and accuse the voter who asked her about the Civil War as being some kind of Democratic operative.

“How dare that Democrat plant expose my real opinion!”

But seriously, if someone asks about the causes of the American Civil War, and one of the first words out of your mouth isn’t “slavery,” then “sus” is a generous interpretation of your character and beliefs.

I’m trying to figure out how it matters. A question is a question. Her ducking the answer is her ducking the answer. Doesn’t matter WHO asked the question.

It matters to the republican audience because now they can dismiss the whole thing as the fault of democrats. It doesn’t have to make sense beyond that. Seemingly bad thing happened -> Democrats caused it -> Don’t need to think about it anymore.

      They’re stupid.

        They’re stupid.

This is why we can’t have nice things, apparently. Weaponized stupidity, at this point. I’m still unclear as to the origins of the brain damage, though. Seems much worse in rural areas.

Her ducking the answer is her ducking the answer.

And she’s from the self-proclaimed party of personal responsibility.

The real problem is that she didn’t handle it well. She will be a very good President for the war party.

The GOP are so used to asking questions in bad faith, they assume all questions they answer that make them look bad were asked in bad faith.

Why not just a Democrat? Hell, why not just a citizen? Am I not allowed to ask right wing politicians questions just because I haven’t voted republican in 30-odd years? Is she not running to represent Americans, rather than exclusively Republican interests?

This is all rhetorical, don’t answer.

“Biden and the Democrats keep sending Democrat plants to do things like this, to get the media to react,” Haley said, according to NH Journal. “We know when they’re there. We know what they’re doing.”

Then Nikki, why didn’t you answer “slavery”? Were you bamboozled by a clever democrat plant that outflanked you or were you aware the entire time about the democrat plant and walked into the trap willingly with your answer? Neither of those makes you look good at all. Or is it neither of these things and your attempt to cover your mistake are making you look even worse than your bad answer at the event, which I didn’t even know was possible.

Someone striving to be the president of the United States couldn’t answer a very basic question about one of the largest moments in the countries history. It was a Middle School level question. But it’s a Democrat plant making her look bad. Sure.

Dude asked an absolute layup of a question. She fumbled it because she tried to pander to her racist base, not because it was some kind of trick.
