    On the other hand, “knocked down” and “knocked up” have drastically different meanings, which is a little confusing for foreigners sometimes. =P

      So do the phrases “knocked up” and “hit up”. I could hit you up for money. I could knock you up for money. But the way I’m getting that money is way different.

      I made that mistake as a 6 year old and didn’t understand the laughter until years later. It’s been well over 30 years now and I still remember getting laughed at for that one.
