While the invasion in the original Red Dawn was stretching things a bit, at least the USSR was a credible threat back then.

The remake swapping out the USSR for the DPRK? Please…

On that topic, it has been really strange watching the same group that used to have nothing but vitriol for the Soviets, suddenly in jump in bed with the Russians. A generation has passed is one factor, I suppose. Still, its an about face that still makes my head spin a bit. I have to attribute it to Russian influence campaigns and other underhanded corruption using power, money and influence.

          Two reasons.

          First and foremost: Money

Second: Group of right-wing authoritarians hate Nation run by left wing authoritarians. Nation drops left ideology and swings hard right? Group of right-wing authoritarians change opinion of nation real fast.

          Have you seen “The Americans?”

It’s like that, but less fun.

A sizable amount of politicians are either spies, bribed, or have dirt on them (probably fucking kids).

Only if you dont understand that the soviet union and the Russian state have polar opposite outlooks on political economy.

The USSR would never invade the US though. It was just a credible threat to global capitalism and imperialism.

We also had a ridiculous amount of tanks next to the Fulda Gap. And we put a lot of nazis who were previously involved in the invasion of the USSR in NATO and west German positions.

Exactly, because NATO saw them as a credible threat.

Hell, France’s stated doctrine if they did break through was to use tactical nukes on them in West Germany to halt the advance and to avoid turning more of their territory into red zones.

                Our defense their threat

Maybe they were worried about being invaded again by countries that had all invaded them over the last 30 years: France, US, Britain, Germany, the last of which killed 26 million soviet citizens, 1/6th of their population.
