Just pulled the trigger on an OLED. I haven’t played a game on my PC for over a year, it’s simply used to stream football matches to my Chromecast on the weekends.

I already have a laptop and a PS5 that can do the heavy lifting. I also have a PS Vita that gets used daily simply because it’s so convenient, so I know the Steam Deck will get some play.

Just curious about others.

Hell no. Linux is garbage for gaming. Linux is a pain in the ass and steamos is a dumpster fire of an os.

Have you even tried Linux? It has a functioning app store, and games just install through steam. Very hateful and doesn’t reflect the user experience very well.

I’ve been using my PC less. My PS5 was just more convenient but the deck has made it easy to get back into the steam ecosystem

No. Steam deck is a great piece of hardware but it’s nowhere close to the performance I can get from my PC.

PC and PS5 for modern AAA games and multiplayer games. Steam deck for indies and old games.

Mostly. I don’t use my pc near as often because it’s in a cold basement. I’d rather game on the warm main floor than in freezing temperatures

You beat me to it. Obviously, my PC is way better, but the fact that I have the same game right handy on a machine that starts almost immediately has resulted in me using my PC way less. I just wish SD was better at handling games on other launchers (EA and Rockstar in particular).

Definitely. It also doesn’t help that I do shift work and sit down at work all day. While I still do use my PC extensively for other things other than gaming, I have been doing all of my gaming for the past 9 months on my Deck and PS4 and have started using my laptop more frequently.

Also, the idea of chilling down in bed or the couch with my fiancé while we’re both playing with our Decks is very nice 😊

      Sunshine and Moonlight!

I’m seriously considering making the oled deck the main place I play games.

I have but it says less about how great the SD is and more about the reduced place gaming has in my life. Back when I was big into gaming it wouldn’t have worked for me but now that gaming for me is me going ‘man, I want to jam an hour or two of Quake 2’ once every week or so it’s plenty powerful enough for that.

My wife and I wanted to spend more time in the bedroom together. 😉

So we ditched our ging PCs and bought Steam Decks. Now we can game wherever we want. We do it on the couch, on the floor, on the kitchen table, it’s awesome.

I would not use the word “ditch” but the steam deck made it easier to separate work from play. My playtime on my laptop has decreased and on the steam deck increased due to adjustments done to my routine.

I play on my laptop at home, i work at univ on my laptop, in between those times i use the steam deck. Some situations are easier to deal with when you have the steam deck to pass time.

      Yup.

I had 2 tires replaced at Pep Boys last week. Normally, I’d dread having to wait around for 45 minutes. I loaded up Gex 64 (since people kept talking about it on reddit lately) and replayed a level 3 times to collect everything that I needed.

The wife appreciates how much time we spend together too since I’m not gaming in the back office nearly as much.

The Deck is the best purchase that I’ve made all year.

Nah because while the steamdeck is really good, it isn’t as good as most gaming PCs, and its battery is too poor. It is of a similar power to my current PC from 2018, but this PC does everything else better, such as games that run better on Directx 12, or Discord, so I only use the steamdeck if I’m out, travelling, or playing a game that simply feels better on the tinier screen (Heroes of Hammerwatch, Monster Hunter Rise).

I’m on the waiting list for my OLED to come in…

My pc is stupidly more powerful than my deck but i still find myself using the deck far more these days.

I already work all day in front of a pc and nothing beats geting home to my wife, laying in the bed or sofa and playing a bit in the deck to relax.

I have the lcd model and never found the battery lacking for my tastes, for most games i play it gives between 3 to 5h and i rarely get more than that of free time anyway, in the rare cases i do i can always plug it to charge and keep playing lol

I frequently use Moonlight/Sunlight to stream from pc to deck for more intensive games and would recommend this for you if you don’t already

For me, pc and steamdeck have a lovely symbiotic relationship. I simply play a bit of game on pc, and continue where I left off on my steam deck.

It amazes me the amount of people that go “Full Steam Deck” ( Robert Downey Jr Voice from Tropic Thunder ) and act like a steam deck is better than even the most middle ground desktop.

They’re not designed to compete with one another. Like you said, play games at home and then pick up the deck and play on the move. It’s portability is it’s USP. That’s the only thing the deck has over my desktop. And that’s ok…

But you’re always going to find cultists when you join the cult I guess

I love my Steam Deck and currently have two of them (upgraded to OLED) but I don’t use it for demanding games or games with small UI elements.

A good example is Starfield, it is much nicer to play on proper hardware with a nice big screen. Can it be played on the Steam Deck? Sure, it kind of runs natively and streaming is possible, but I simply don’t prefer it.

But rogue likes, emulation, older games, Steam Deck is great! Currently replaying Alan Wake on my Deck and it’s been a ton of fun.

Might buy a steam deck instead of upgrading my 4th gen i5 pc since that’s about 3 times more expensive and steam deck can kind of play a lot of recent games with a stable 30fps.

In my case the Deck (OLED) has one major advantage over my PC besides the portability - its screen. My PC screen is a perfectly competent 1440p panel with decent colours, but it’s also a 60Hz IPS. Some games the power of the PC (5900X, 3070) is going to make games look better on there, others the Deck’s OLED is going to give it the win. Or there’s always streaming to get both!

I’ll add that on the move isn’t necessary. Just being able to relax and game away from setup still feels so good. Depends on the game though, still plenty I will prefer on my main machine.

The Steam Deck isn’t even the most powerful handheld. For people that want to play AAA games consistently a PC is still a great option. I like my PS5 but it only really gets turned on for exclusives.

I did. Lost interest in most of the triple A titles. Playing mostly indie games or lower spec games in general - which is perfect for SD. I am also using it for pretty much everything else as a regular desktop - browsing web, programming, watching movies even photoediting. Desktop mode is awesome. I really like Valve for what they are doing regarding everything around the SD as they are doing damn good job.
