I would like to charge my laptop and Deck (or phone and Deck, or phone and laptop) at the same time. Laptop charges at 65W via USB-C, Deck at 40W, phone somewhere in the 13-22W range. Ideally I’d like at least two USB-C out and one normal USB out to be able to use all my normal cables.
Now I’ve found a few bricks that can deliver 65 W no problem like this one. The problem comes in with simultaneous charging: Instead of supplying two or three times 65W, it supplies 45W+20W, so suddenly we charge a lot slower.
I know a 65W brick may be a bad example here. But even 165W bricks I’ve seen toggle down when something else is plugged in.
The only one that seems to be consistent depending on which ports are used might be this charger. But with double the amount of ports I need and almost the price of the official dock, I have the hope that some of you know a good charging brick that can hold 65W output no matter what else is plugged in and is a bit more portable/smaller/cheaper/lighter than the linked one.
I’ve been an anker fan so maybe these will work. unfortunately some are no longer on blackfriday sale. the 67w one was 38usd
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09W2N774C/ high enough so that you can do 60w 60w from both type c or in your case 65w and 40w without any drops in wattage.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C4DGBHY2/ this works too but with two type c occupied you do get a slight drop, 65w and 35w
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C4YTB56H/ i personally went with this 67w since i’m only charging the deck and maybe a phone if needed or my portable battery which tops out at 60w recharge. and also wanted it to fit in my bag with the deck.
Thanks, I’ll take a closer look at them! I’m a bit sceptical as they don’t show exactly how the power is split between the two ports but rather what combined power they can give. But maybe it’s just split according to the power needs of whatever is plugged in and the order doesn’t matter.
I don’t worry about black friday. I’m in Germany, we didn’t have this until a few years ago, and even now everything I looked at before / during has been the same price but marketed as a reduced price. Even stuff I bought last year either hat the same discount year-round or a coupon you could click to give the same savings. It’s a marketing tool that will save you exactly 0€ on Amazon here.
Either way, if I find the Europlug equivalents, I might go for one of those!
the 100w actually do show wattage split just scroll down and in the details. for the 120w its upto 100w each and evenly split but total 120w. and the type A is always at max which is 22.5w max but always max 120w
67w the type c is also evenly split of 65w so each would do 32.5w max
also yes unfortunately these only have plugs for us market.
I’ve only seen very expensive chargers not lower the power output when multiple devices are connected. That said, know that your laptop and Deck don’t HAVE to be supplied 65W and 45W. They can operate with less, they’ll just charge slower.
This charger, for example, does 65W/30W when only the USB C ports are in use, and that should be fine most of the time, as long as you make sure your laptop is plugged in to the main port.
In the case of the Deck, I’ve regularly used a 20W charger in the past while playing. It’s not great, but as long as I’m not playing very demanding games it can still charge slowly while in use.
Personally, I own a number of different USB C chargers so I took two of them and attached them to my desk. I then routed the cables up from a convenient location and now I’ve just got two charging cables available for laptop/Deck/Switch/whatever right at the desk where I sit the most. I find that much better than having a charger on the desk I can plug in to whenever I want, because the cables are already managed.
