New Zealand First leader Winston Peters is confirmed to be the next Deputy Prime Minister - appointed to this role for the first half of the three-year Parliamentary term.
ACT leader David Seymour will be Deputy Prime Minister for the second half of the term.
Mr Peters will be Minister of Foreign Affairs and Mr Seymour Minister for Regulation.
The next Cabinet will have 20 members; 14 National Ministers, three ACT Ministers and three New Zealand First Ministers.
I find it funny that Winnie and David Seymour will do 1.5 years each as Deputy. Like kids cutting a lolly in half.
It’s also funny because Winston has criticised the Green’s co-leadership system. But now he’s provided the precedent if they’re ever in a position to get deputy PM.
I wonder if they discussed it around the negotiation table.

Co leadership isn’t quite the same as taking turns like that.
No, but the question is, how would the Green party assign co-leaders to the most important positions in a coalition agreement? In 2017, Winston specifically criticised the Greens over this, and said they couldn’t have co-deputy PMs saying it would be unconstitutional (can’t remember if this was before or after the election). If the Greens are ever in a position to get deputy PM, they now have a precedent for how that could work with their co-leaders.
I laughed when I read it…I thought about cake, but the same thing.
So which one is the PM and which one is the AM?
