I do not plan to purchase it from a carrier. Yes, I’m in the US. Is this even possible?
No idea. OnePlus 9 the last one I owned did. Im not sure why they would remove the option.
Don’t purchase it from carrier and it will be unlockable. Carriers make it far more difficult
I see, the bootloader can likely be unlocked if not bought from a carrier. Then, could you tell me about Samsung devices in the US? Are their bootloaders locked even if I purchase directly (not through a carrier)?
Unfortunately can’t speak for USA. Some carriers allow you to unlock and others don’t. If you don’t buy through carriers then OnePlus has been very easy to unlock. I’ve flashed older Samsung’s. Last few were 8 and 9. Really easy to unlock but carriers can lock them down.
You can always just go into the carrier you want and ask them. They might not know but someone should know.
I have heard that the newer S series mobiles in the US cannot be unlocked even without purchasing it from a carrier?
Would search the ungoogle subs. Pixels are definitely unlockable as lots are flashing graphene os.
Pixels are certainly a good idea, but I’m afraid of trusting Google that much. The community is focussing so much of their efforts into a company that is known to shut things down/make things harder for FOSS
Absolutely. The best unlockable phones used to be OnePlus but I’m no longer sure. Pixels seemed to be pretty good for graphene but as you said it might stop working at some point
Indeed
Yes, OEM unlocking is an option that you can toggle in the developer settings in the 11. I haven’t done it personally, but it looks like it’s the standard process via fastboot.
as long as you don’t purchase it from a carrier then yeah it should be possible. though they have been going a weird direction with their OS lately, I don’t see why they’d remove that feature
Thanks, that’s good to know. I’m a bit disheartened that support for OnePlus devices has dwindled a fair bit, but if it can be rooted I can still debloat it/add apps and features to it, so that’s OK!

Even the OnePlus 11? I’m looking for a De-Googled experience, but with some features of Graphene (multiple accounts, ability to run some Google apps - I’d like to use Google Maps)

Exactly. Oneplus had ruined its market for custom roms by taking away the software that made it possible.

It can, but it can’t uninstall system apps like the Play store or Google services. Just disable them at best.
With that said, once I root my device, I can install Magisk, actually debloat it and maybe install some other apps. I’m looking forward to purchasing a cheap device and experimenting!
a developer found a way to break edl tool so developers can work on oneplus 11 devices
n xda developer picked up his oneplus 11 and is currently porting lineageos onto it
currently, almost everything works, there is no ota support yet as its still an unofficial lineageos, but work is being done to make it official
here- https://xdaforums.com/t/rom-unofficial-lineageos-20-for-oneplus-11.4609069/Thanks, I found this thread a few days back. Great to know it is being worked on: hope to see support for the N30 too at some point!
