Google set to cancel “7 years of software updates for the Pixel 8”.

Google will be shuddering its “7 years of software updates” program next month, just 1 year after launch. The company sites unforeseen economic changes for the decision.

Your Pixel 8 will continue to work, but no new updates will be coming.

The issue is that those previous promises were for a very short support window, and Google has a terrible track record for any sort of long term support.

        Google supports Pixel? Sure.

Google supports anything for 7 years? Doubtful.

Not really. The previous phones already had a way longer support window than almost any other Android phones on the market, which mostly only get a year or so of updates. It’s a defining feature of pixel phones.

Google has a great track record at fulfilling its promises of support, but a terrible track record of giving un-promised support. So when they promise support, that should go into the “good track record” column.

You still have unlimited Google photos storage with the first Pixel. I’d say they keep their promises just fine.
