On the one hand the beginning of the article “For half a century, we have thrown everything we have at the disease, but we are no closer to curing it” is kind of ridiculous and horribly offensive to the many people, both researchers and research participants, who have made so many strides and so much progress in multiple types of cancer over the past fifty years. Also plays into the popular misconception that cancer is one disease that will someday have one “cure.” The article does have some good points though about how there seems to be endless money for drugs that provide marginal benefits, and little help available for patients in terms of home care and other things that will matter far more for quality of life. Ridiculous how you can get a $300,000 drug paid for by insurance with marignal benefit, but they won’t cover a bathroom hand rail or wheelchair or something sometimes.
