Stimulus check updates: Biden, Senate Democrats tighten income limits for payments, firm up support for COVID-19 relief bill

President Joe Biden and Democrats agreed to tighten the upper income limits at which people could qualify for $1,400 stimulus checks to $80,000 and $160,000 for couples.

now people in the US who made over $80,000 (based on adjusted gross income on last tax return) and couples who made over $160,000 get zero dollars. the $80k is $20k less than when the bill was in the house.

the articles i’ve read have reported different numbers of people being cut out but the largest estimate I saw was 17 million. apparently 2.4 million people in california alone will miss out.

the reason this is bad is because many people lost their jobs in 2020 but made a lot of money in 2019. if their 2019 tax return what is being looked at (it is unless by some miracle the IRS already got to their 2020 return) then they will not receive any stimulus money.
