South Carolinian here; 43% FUCKING 43%! In a deeply Red state where our Governor just got in trouble for trying to shift almost all the education budget through the back door to private charter schools while leaving almost nothing for public, a state that has one of the highest COVID infection rates and a state where minority/poor communities feel all these impacts disproportionately this is a ticking time bomb.
They can’t possibly think throwing even half of that many people is a good idea for them. Will probably come up with some sort of concession but this is the the US so I harbour some doubts.

US is very strange. Other nations have already increased welfare programs to stabilize themselves. Sleepy Joe is promising very little and his Low Energy programs would not be noticed by most people. US may be unable to reform to save itself
