The James Webb Space Telescope has detected key carbon-bearing molecules on the potential ocean world K2-18b, including tantalising hints of a substance produced by tiny plankton on Earth.

    It’s only 124 light years away. Close enough to be in our neighborhood of the galaxy, but far enough away that we’ll never know.

    It would be wondrous if alien astronomers are just now getting excited by the carbon dioxide detected in our atmosphere from the end of the 19th century.
