highlight: Zeldisney claims Putin wants to restore the USSR

The Russian president has a habit of creating “frozen conflicts” on Russia’s borders (in Georgia, for example), not as ends in themselves but because his goal is to “restore the Soviet Union”.

  • Curtailing aid to Ukraine will only prolong the war, Mr Zelensky argues. And it would create risks for the West in its own backyard. There is no way of predicting how the millions of Ukrainian refugees in European countries would react to their country being abandoned. Ukrainians have generally “behaved well” and are “very grateful” to those who sheltered them. They will not forget that generosity. But it would not be a “good story” for Europe if it were to “drive these people into a corner”.

what if the winning strategy for destroying The West was to induce it to repeatedly finance, supply, train, and betray terror operations against its geopolitical rivals until many peripheral states become networked together, united only by a hatred of their perfidious former benefactors.

Nah, the West finances, supplies, trains, and betrays them, leading to their terror operations against them. Everyone else just gets to sit-back-and-enjoy

his goal is to “restore the Soviet Union”.

If I had a nickel for every time some lib in Russia repeated this idiocy with the same alarmed tone they always have, why I might have been petit bourgeoisie by now!

who’s mad here, and what’s obvious? are you seriously buying that Putin’s goal is to restore the USSR? as laughable as that is yeah I can imagine banderite nazis would hate to live under Soviet Union II

      • It’s a leap to say that this is a threat. It’s not absurd to say that a country losing a war would lead to a refugee crisis? That literally is what always happens. Calling it a threat is to act like he said “if we lose, we will consciously make an effort to hurt our former allies”. It’s ridiculous and shows how the OP of the article is Big Mad that Ukrainians don’t excitedly want to be forcibly realigned to the Russian sphere of influence.

          Did you read the article?

He’s not saying “if we lose the war, there will be a refugee crisis”. He’s not talking about hypothetical future refugees.

He’s saying that if the west stops supplying Ukraine, the millions of Ukrainians already in western countries will react badly.

And from there, it’s not a leap to call it a threat.

He’s not threatening a refugee crisis, he is threatening that the refugees will become “backed into a corner” and become terrorists. IE, he’s threatening the west that if they cut off funding to Ukraine then Azov terror cells will be activated throughout Western Europe. We have been predicting as much from the start of the war, it’s extremely predictable that fascist terrorists would turn on their masters if they money spigot gets turned off and use the western arms/training against them, as Taliban/Al Qaeda/ISIS/etc before them all did

“People do get that there are Ukrainians who don’t want to live under Putin right?” This sentence is completely non-sensical, how do you even look at this and think this is appropriate to say? Living under Putin? and occupied Ukraine? First off the predominately communist and left-wing regions of Ukraine just happen to want a separation from Ukraine and to join with Russia for 8 years? Yet its ‘occupied’ you say, do you think you know better than these people about their own lively circumstances? Maybe there’s an actual valid reason as to why these left-wing russian speaking areas wish to leave ukraine?

Yeah I guess the banderite western Ukrainians would hate to be in Russia you’re right about this, probably consider them too ‘Asiatic’ or uncivilized. But really do not use these words next time, because these are dog-whistles for pro-NATO and therefor pro-imperialist propaganda. You can be critical of russia as it is still a bourgeoise nation but defending ukraine which is now a neo-nazi haven is completely absurd.
