The Ohio Supreme Court on Thursday granted the dismissal of two legal challenges to the map the court previously deemed to be unconstitutionally gerrymandered in favor of Republicans.

The plaintiffs in the lawsuits, which include the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, the League of Women Voters of Ohio, and the A. Philip Randolph Institute of Ohio, had sought the dismissal of their own cases, saying they don’t want voters to be in limbo ahead of the 2024 election.

Some additional context from an earlier AP News article:

The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio, on behalf of the League of Women Voters of Ohio and others, told the Ohio Supreme Court that they are willing to live with the U.S. House map approved March 2, 2022, and used in last year’s elections, “(i)n lieu of the continued turmoil brought about by cycles of redrawn maps and ensuing litigation.”

Democrats netted wins under that map — securing five of 15 U.S. House seats, compared to the four of 16 they had held previously.

The dismissal request also comes as advocates prepare a redistricting reform amendment for Ohio’s 2024 ballot. After an initial rejection, the group Citizens Not Politicians resubmitted their petition language Tuesday.

Because there’s no longer the threat of gallows and guillotines. But in the United States of Capitalism, pretending there’s ultimate freedom is what’s needed to keep the racket going.

The appearance of legitimacy. Even in Russia they’re still holding elections, while blatantly stuffing ballots on camera and jailing opposition candidates, but for whatever reason, they still continue with the sham of the elections because it makes it more “official”. I kind of scratch my head at it too, it’s like, “None of this is real, why are you even bothering with the charade?” I guess just having a smidge of a process gives true believers something to point to, no matter how small, something that justifies the whole thing.

You should try to answer this question. Because Putin does the same thing and he’s been a democratically elected president for like two decades. Whereas in what is more of a democracy, many Americans are fed up with nothing happening in their favor and are willing to declare Trump emperor of the universe by any means necessary.

It’s interesting because of what democracy is supposed to mean and what it actually means in practice. More the point, a stolen election is still an election in the democratic process.
