One of the top reasons I jailbroke my phone. I have like three tweaks whose sole job is to get rid of as many animations/fades as possible.

In general I like animations quite a lot. They look nice and show the user what’s happening (if done well).

But sometimes they just get in the way and are annoying. Maybe they sped up how shortcuts runs on iOS 17, but it definitely looks like they just had a shit animation before and replaced it with a much better one.

There’s a setting on android where you van change the speed of the animations and even disable them. No need to root it.

There’s also a “reduce motion” setting under accessibility on iOS. It skips most of the animations or converts them to a fade in/out. Not sure if it speeds up anything though.

Shortcuts is dead for me after they throttle its speed and made notifications mandatory.

Are you talking about a specific iOS version where that supposedly happened? I have plenty running without a notification and I’m pretty sure iOS 17 expands the shortcuts that can run without notification

        Sorry I didn’t clarify what I mean.

I was referring to automation for the notification part as some “useful” automations would send a notification to ask you whether to run or not such as perform an action if you enter or exit a zone.

You can create a focus mode and link it with a zone then perform an action based on that focus mode.

I opted for Home Assistant to handle my automations and never looked back.

If you’re happy with your current setup that’s great and you should probably stick with it. However, if I’m reading this screen here correctly it sounds to me like you can automatically run location based automations in iOS 17 without the confirmation.

It’d be great if they fix it. I’m sure it’ll not be taxing my battery as much as Home Assistant.

What about speed throttling? Is it improved?

What exactly do you mean by speed throttling, that the shortcuts run too slowly? I’d assume they run bad enough by themselves without Apple artificially slowing things down, but maybe they actually do something like that to preserve battery.
