1 minute of typical Mearsheimer: trite clichés and blathering unsupported by concrete evidence.

Edit: I didn’t notice this community was just a Yogthos circlejerk. Have fun.

Unsupported by concrete evidence is an interesting way to describe Europe committing economic seppuku at the behest of the US.

        economic seppuku

Care to illustrate this with a few examples? I would counter that the EU GDP is nearly identical to that of the US, and with the Trump regime alienating the whole world except for Russia, I don’t see Americans pulling ahead for a while. The big question for me is what the EU/China dynamic will look like.

US blowing up Nord Stream and crashing German economy seems to be the obvious one. Germany sealed the documents on the investigation and won’t release them to the public now. The EU is in deep economic trouble after three years of economic war with Russia, and that’s what’s driving political unrest all across Europe as we speak. The US has been actively taking advantage of the situation by poaching European industry with the inflation reduction act under Biden, and will further squeeze Europe with tariffs under Trump. If you don’t see Americans pulling ahead then you have absolutely no clue regarding what’s happening. Americans have a secure energy supply and Europe doesn’t.

The EU can try to improve relations with China to counter the US, but that won’t solve the energy problems EU has. It will just mean that EU will become more dependent on Chinese manufacturing going forward.

If only there were a country with twice the total landmass of the EU, rich in all types of resources, that is ideologically extremely close to the EU and has just been spurned by the US and is actively looking to realign itself with more reliable allies. Can you think of anyone?

This is not a bad thing in the short term. China is not an ideological ally but they are at least rational and not raving lunatics like the US.

Canada is as much of a vassal of the US as the EU, and it’s highly unlikely that it would be allowed to spurn the US in this way.

China is indeed a much better partner than the US, but in the long run Europe needs to figure out how to become self sufficient if it ever wants to be genuinely sovereign. This means figuring out how to produce cheap energy domestically and creating essential industries that can produce things people need. So far, it’s not the direction things are moving in.

I was going to say that this would not go over well with Western liberals and conservatives alike. Lol

Mearsheimer somehow thinks he can get away with behaving like we live in the early 19th century where the fog of war is so thick that states couldn’t see the end of their own nose. He willingly ignores the enormous progress made in collaborative diplomacy since the second world war, with (ironically) the EU being the most outstanding example. He has such a hard-on for the CCP that he’s unwilling to accept that any alternative can have long-term success.

That “collaborative diplomacy” was formed by the United States arming & supporting political violence in Europe to make sure that the governments they ended to with were more aligned w Washington than Moscow; similar to what they did in Latin America, but hidden until the freedom of information act.

Thanks, this will go in my pantheon of tankiest lemmy.ml takes I’ve ever seen. Complaining that the people who literally invented and perfected democracy work together only because of Americans… Unbelievable.

see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil; it’s tried and true trio of willful liberal ignorance that’s causing our downfall where we could otherwise accomplish those true democracies that you pretend to extol.

you can literally find it for yourself on something like google, but instead you refuse to accept it because it doesn’t align with your world view; exactly like any maga fool.
