Summary

Trump is preparing mass layoffs for federal workers who decline its voluntary resignation offer, “Fork in the Road,” which guarantees pay through September 30 but requires workers to waive legal rights.

Over 20,000 employees have accepted, but unions argue the offer is coercive and legally dubious, filing a lawsuit to halt the February 6 deadline.

The administration warns holdouts could lose their jobs as part of Trump and Elon Musk’s plan to downsize government.

Critics say the policy mirrors Musk’s mass firings at X.

Which fricking is insane… because while a pain in the ass, social media is optional to begin with, and if you organize your friends together, you can all go join a mastadon instance or any number of other options. If I knew an easy way to leave the US, I’d have considered the option a long time ago.

Honestly, as I start to correlate the two, it really seems like a similar issue to me. Besides of course, emigrating also having barriers to entry based on economic status and/or skills, and the extreme difference in importance.

One of the most daunting tasks of either is rebuilding your support network or taking them with you.

I’m actively working to get out of the US. I think about leaving the people and community I know every day. There were a couple people who said they’d go but backed out when they realized I wasn’t just engaging in what if fantasy. It’s been difficult knowing how hard it is to find friends and support in my thirties and I’m going to have to start from scratch on the other side of the planet. I’m trans and worried I could get black bagged any day now but even with that the thought of leaving my social circle behind is almost enough to make me stay

I’m for one solid in things… but yeah friends, family, I can do without all that.

Job, House, and of course citizen status… not so easily for me. especially in my case as I’m not legally married to my GF, and have an 18 year old non biological son that’s also not legally connected to me or my wife in any way.
