The only reason to use tariffs is to force your own people to NOT buy from a particular country. If it’s every country… What is the point?
my anger is that even if the tariffs go away at some point, its not like the price of anything will go down. did the coronavirus teach us nothing?
So he got what he wanted? Plan worked I guess. Mexico and Colombia folded. Will Canada be next one?
What were people expecting? Let’s compare numbers here. So according to various US dot GOV websites (you can google and get the numbers) I have obtain some numbers and round off for simple comparison.
Mexico exports about $490 billion or nearly 80% of their goods the the US.
In the meantime the US export about $360 billion or about <13% of total US exports (based on $3 trillion total export).
Obviously they would fold. Do you know how many south american countries would love to step into Mexico’s place?
I don’t know what the end game is but propping up Canada for a fight they can’t win is not the answer, they have numbers the same as Mexico (77% export volume to US making up 12% of total US imports).
Up to you to make your own conjecture.
Ah, it’s one of those yenius business deals one gets from a pants grab. Makes sense he’d pivot that way, it’s right on brand.
But my president going the extra mile for all people is also right on brand. I hope her Mexico Embraces You program goes well for all those being deported. They should consider finding themselves a decent living here in Mexico if they can.
From what I hear he likes that sort of thing. Could explain a lot.
It’s the real reason his face is colored like that.
60% of Canada’s exports go to the US.
It’s more. Like 77%
The pic is still very accurate! Tariffs are paid by the buyers and ultimately passed down to the customer! Canada will probably largely shift its imports and exports to untaxed countries, funny since it will likely be china!
It is also funny since one of his main campaigning point was to deal with the living expenses crisis and he is going to deal with that by raising prices a minimum of 10% plus whatever the comps throw on it, taking advantage of the price raise
I’d love to get a hold of one of the Chinese EVs that are dominating the global market.
