It really is lol like the justification is that Luka has conditioning issues and is injured so instead of going to any other team they just go to the lakers and trade for an older more injury prone AD and 1 pick lol

It feels like the Mavs didn’t even explore the market. If you trade away 25 year old generational talent (even little bit overweight) the return should be more than that. Weird af trade.

No idea why the Mavs do this, was Luka unhappy?

This had to have been fixed by the league. There’s absolutely NOTHING in this for the Mavs. Horrible, horrible trade!

Like the nets got 5 firsts for bridges, the jazz got 5 for Gobert, how is this the best you got for Luka? NO ONE KNEW HE WAS EVEN AVAILABLE

Everything I’m seeing right now is saying he didn’t ask out either, I’m not even a Mavs fan and it feels like a gut punch lol

This feels like a league trade for ratings. How else can you explain it? This is such an incredibly lopsided trade. With the league ratings having been down for so long, they had to do something to get their prime markets back. Next up, Giannis to the Knicks for the NY pizza rat and a carton of milk from the nearest bodega.

I feel so bad for you, my condolences.

That’s exactly what I was thinking as a Knicks fan, like we gave 5 firsts for Mikal and it only takes ONE for fucking Doncic??? He’s a 25 year old walking triple double, perennial MVP candidate.

And of course it had to be the Lakers who get another franchise player for the next decade basically for free. Fuck sake.

I think if they were the same age you could argue defense blah blah blah. But they’re not lol.

Christie and what will probably be a late first round pick? Like you guys don’t want nothing else? Is this a prank lol? Ok

But he’s a free agent after next season. If they wait until next season to trade him on an expiring, they will get nothing back like Raptors got nothing for Siakam.

              No dude, just no.

Luca is a 25y perennial MVP candidate and hasn’t even peaked probably. I’m pretty sure every team in the league would be in a bidding war if they knew he was available, even next year.

From ESPN "Though Doncic was relatively svelte by his standards when he reported to camp, his weight ballooned to the high 260s early this season, sources said. He sat out five games in late November, when the Mavs listed him with a sprained right wrist, an extended absence to allow Doncic to focus on his conditioning. He had a similar early-season layoff in the 2022-23 season.

Doncic was in line to receive a five-year, $345 million contract this summer but because of the trade, he is no longer eligible for a super max deal, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks."

Seems to me that the Mavs were not looking for a long term partnership with Luka due to his work ethic so they preferred to cut a deal while it was still making sense and move on. For Lakers it could work out well if this can trigger hookah Doncic and fire up his motivation.

Didn’t Cuban sell recently or did I imagine that?

Must have some blackmail on him then since this is the worst trade I’ve seen in my life

From what I remember he sold but, was still running the team. And only sold because he was guaranteed full control of the team after the sale.

I could definitely be wrong though so do fact check me.

    • Shams Charania: The Mavericks approached the Lakers recently and offered Luka Doncic, sources tell ESPN. Lakers brass met and believed the 25-year-old Doncic has the ability to be the face of their franchise for the next decade while giving Anthony Davis a win-now move in Dallas.https://xcancel.com/ShamsCharania/status/1885925196650963331

    • Bobby Marks: There are major financial implications for Luka Doncic with this trade. He was in line to receive a five-year $345M contract this summer. Doncic is no longer super max eligible.https://xcancel.com/BobbyMarks42/status/1885922284071702954

    • Tim McMahon: "I believe that defense wins championships,” Mavs GM Nico Harrison told ESPN regarding his motivation to trade Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis. “I believe that getting an All-Defensive center and an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance. We’re built to win now and in the future."https://xcancel.com/espn_macmahon/status/1885922718333181992

    • Tim McMahon: The Mavs had major concerns about moving forward with Luka Doncic due to his constant conditioning issues and the looming commitment of another supermax contract extension this summer, sources told ESPN.https://xcancel.com/espn_macmahon/status/1885924010669621271

Are you telling me that the Lakers are getting Luka on a discounted salary on top of getting him in the first place? It’s that what this means?

So here’s Mavs’ thinking. Luka has player option for 2026. Lakers have cleared cap space to give Luka the MAX. Mavs must have a sniffling of an idea that Luka wasn’t going to sign with them. So they are getting the best deal they can NOW. It also explains the leaks tonight on Mavs’ frustrations with Luka’s “conditioning” basically calling him a lazy fat fuck in polite words.

Two years of luka basketball with the mavs absolutely outweighs this trade. One year of luka basketball (the rest of this season) absolutely outweighs this trade. The mavs, being upset about his conditioning could have literally shopped around the league for more than this crap. This is a complete and utter failure on behalf of the mavs and in my opinion a sell out from the new owners who don’t care about the future of this franchise and don’t want to pay luka his super max contract he very much deserves. I am a Mavs fan so all of this is extremely raw, but it’s so hard for me to see this as any other way than how I see it right now
