The Trump administration plan is apparently to use such a lawsuit to eliminate the power of Congress to control spending. Hopefully the courts aren’t that far gone yet.
Hey kids! My friend’s wife is a very senior medical pro who was recently on furlough because they didn’t have any fluids so she couldn’t work.
Yeah
- short on supplies
- staff furloughed
- TB outbreak
DAY 8 OF THE SECOND REIGN OF DONVICT
Stay inside.
I work for a Native Tribal Government they’re freaking the fuck out since almost their funding comes from Federal Grants. Our Chief is an open Trump supporter. Wonder what he thinks about this.
The most delicious kind of face.
i never thought they’d eat that guy’s face
Leopards are equal opportunity face eaters. They are very inclusive and enjoy all faces.
States should withhold federal taxes. Quid pro quo.
Federal taxes are paid by individuals and corporations, not the states, so it would be on individuals and companies to halt payment.
Your comment made me wonder what taxes the federal government collects from state governments. As far as I can tell, the IRS does not collect from state governments, but does collect from the residents and businesses of a state.
So while I agree that these states should fight back, I don’t think they have any payments that they could withhold. I hope they find a variety of other ways to fix this though.
Maybe its time that leaders of those states get a bill proposed/passed that would bar the federal government from levying/collecting any type of tax on an individual who is a resident of that state; if the federal government breaks certain terms…
Article 1, sec. 8, clause 1: The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States; . . .
And the tenth amendment: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
Such a law as you propose would be unconstitutional and the state government could not protects its citizens from the consequences that would come from withholding their taxes. While we’re talking about taxes here, the tenth amendment is also what protects citizens in deep red states from their oppressive state governments (despite their best efforts).
I mean, it’s illegal lol so yea
What will they do? Fine Trump? Jail him? If not, he’s not going to care. And they won’t jail him.
For what that’s worth.
Why wouldn’t red states also join? Not like they wouldn’t have major issues with this also. Or, are they literally so loyal they’ll fall on their swords, lose their own jobs and programs?
Basically yeah, reminder that the old guard of conservative bastards who had a modicum of humanity or wanting a vaguely functional system are largely gone from politics. With a handful of exceptions most of them are true believers who legit want to dissolve the federal government and will happily burn themselves down to do it.
Why isn’t Washington state in there?!
Need to stop federal tax collection also, stop ALL the spigot.
So they can do this, but they throw their hands up in the air at his anti-LGBTQ executive orders
