i learned recently that my grandfather’s cousin; born, raised, and lived in los angeles (ie. an american citizen); was forcibly deported to mexico during another mass deportation purge, like the current one that is happening in the united states, but during the 1930’s.

he ended up living out the rest of his life in mexico since american officials/bureaucrats grey rocked his efforts to return to the united states; but it mostly ended up working out for him since he ended up getting married and started a family in mexico. he did eventually end up regaining his american citizenship 3 years before he died.

i learned this because i told a family member that i felt lucky that i wasn’t a target in this latest purge of immigrants given my family’s storied history with american immigration and i think that he wanted to impress upon me that fascist dgaf if you’re in this country legally or not (like these navajo) they just want to get rid of as many brown people as they can, while they can.

hearing other latines throw their support behind these raids is heart breaking because it’s probably the clearest manifestation of how effective american propoganda is; and the same is true for the ones who believe that these raids only target criminals & undocumented.

Oh what the shit. This is about as specious and perfidious as you can get.
