Approximately 5% of cyanobacteria in the oceans are linked together through nanotubes made from lipid membranes. E. coli can leverage them to connect with microbes of other species to share nutrients.
This is a great example of how nature is far more cooperative than biologists originally thought. The notion of isolated organisms locked in ceaseless competition for resources is a reflection of the capitalist worldview. Yet, nature demonstrates a path of unity and mutual support, echoing the principles of collective progress and shared prosperity.
