Not taking pride in your work takes a higher toll on you than your boss.
Don’t accept this state of affairs a second longer than is necessary.
Those seem like contradictory statements? I’ll take as much pride in my work as it takes to make sure that I can get hired at a better job but I’m not going above and beyond and I am not hurting myself over it, ever.

many people put in minimum effort for years or decades instead of looking for something better and it ruins them.
Except that there’s rarely anything better. Maybe slightly, but it’s all garbage. Fuck my career, it’s not some douchebags hostage to hang over me like it’s my fault for not producing excellent work for garbage pay.
