Maybe a relative of the Russian Leather Beetle (Osmoderma eremita), like Osmoderma eremicola? It’s likely going to be hard to narrow down without clear photos, though (disclaimer: I am not a beetle expert).
It wasn’t shiny like that article claims it to be, though that may be because it climbed out of a sink drain. Who knows what was on it. However it does look very close.

Awesome! I’m pretty impressed he fought his way up through the drain. I wonder how he got past the p-trap.
