You know, i do actually very often concur with these memes, like the ones saying billionaires are leaches on society and governments are often used as a weapon to protect the ruling classes.

But man… when i come to lemmy i kinda want to only see memes, and funny stuff… even communities that are not niches to political content get political way too often. Like gotdammit, when i get to c/comics i just want to see funny drawings, i’m way too tired to want to see your lame class war comic…

Is that a feeling i’m the only one feeling?

edit: i think what makes it worse is that very often they’re not even funny, just literal propaganda, “good guy propaganda”, maybe, but still propaganda

The amount of hate I get every time when I call out political opinions posted as “memes” is incredible. Every time it’s either some mental gymnastics about how it actually counts as meme or alternatively ad-hominem accusations about my underlaying motives of only calling out left-wing political memes and never right-wing ones (I wonder why).

The truth is that my feed is almost exclusively politics despite me blocking every single political instance other than the ones for general news. I bet there’s even a community dedicated to political memes but no. Some people absolutely have to inject their political views everywhere.

    Yeah, sometimes.

But, like Lemmy is (almost) entirely populated by people who so strongly disagreed with the political drama (either uspol or redditpol) of reddit that they took specific action about it.

It’s a wonder Lemmy isn’t all radical politics.

I’m tired of seing the same superficial content everywhere in general. I just accept it and try to quickly scroll past them.

    My opinion:

I just wish someone would stop with all those leftist memes like ‘future of humanity under socialism vs. capitalism’ because it’s just, in a crude manner, cringe. They’re not very unique, and fail to underline even the basic differences between the two ideologies.

Capitalism is not understood by everyone here, and I feel like those making this stuff are extremely young, have yet to understand what the world offers.

It’s clear that socialism does have its merits but making memes simply mocking capitalism without showing crude memes… not worth it.

I just downvote those kind of posts, they’re awfully low quality and low effort.

What annoys me is the assumption that socialism or communism would fix all of our problems and noone would ever do or feel something bad again.

It does get very predictable and repetitive. I feel like the conversation goes the same way under each political meme.

I don’t mind edgy leftist memes, I just get annoyed at how overconfident MLs in particular are about their broader grasp of political philosophy.

You are not the only one. I am starting to unsubscribe from communities that I feel like it is simply too much of. I get that people want it, and that’s their choice, but it’s feeling a bit overwhelming lately. I thought it might decrease after the USA election but… nope.

I saw a post about someone who made sliders (mini hamburgers) and everyone they’d served them to so far liked them. I wish we had more posts like that one. The problem with Lemmy is there is not enough active niche communities for peoples interests. This is one thing Reddit does much better due to the scale of the user base.

It feels like a brief respite every time I stumble on a post like that.

Posts complaining about “politics” and “propaganda” are invariably made by people who want to see those things, just the kind aligned with their politics.

I think the first time I saw this meme format was around 2002-2004. And I’ve seen it 10,000 times since then. And if OP is posting this in good faith, this will be the first time.

And BTW, there is no such thing as a space without propaganda or politics. Only spaces where the politics and propaganda are homestyle and cozy.

I disagree, IMO a lot of it is just low effort trash spammed across multiple communities, multiplying how annoying it is. It’s not that I disagree with the idea, I just think “elites bad, updoots to the left” is mind numbingly lazy.

I really mean it, this is “my kind” of propaganda. I’m just way too over-saturated with this stuff. Like it’s nice having a space to talk about that, but when we get to the point where “jokes” are just politics without any punchline i think the “jokes” become a bit pointless

Honestly, I kinda enjoy seeing the opposite side, the lefty shit

It reminds me just how insane the left can actually get. Like y’all think taking guns is a good idea, that only the police should be armed. It’s just stupid.

I have little patience for memes, and even less so political memes. The right wing stuff is all woman hating fascists, and the left wing stuff are people who would send me to a camp or chase me out of the country for having a slight disagreement with them on my specific take on socialism.

There’s often no room for discussion or disagreement, because “its a joke”. So at that point it’s just political brainwashing, no matter which side it is on.

Of course, sometimes it’s fun, and sometimes it’s good. There’s a role for humour to play in highlighting injustice and systemic absurdity. I’m not completely against it. I just have little patience for for it.

Which is why I mostly use this platform to look at pictures of owls.

I don’t think its your intention, but this kind of reads like “go be poor somewhere else”. The uptick in the messages you’re seeing are from people that are on the losing end of society, and that losing end is growing more and more all the time. So far I’m lucky (and it is just luck) to not be there, but I recognize that ignoring, or worse silencing, them is the wrong way to go.

Their messages have value because they aren’t being heard. If that keeps up, it will mean the shredding of our society and we all lose. So in short, I’m fine with the “class war” messages as they are here against the rich establishment.

I understand your view, but for a bit of context i’m poor too. I live in Brazil and my origin state the poorest in my country. The current region i live is also sometimes biased against people like me. My financial situation is also quite shit right now.

Maybe i’m trying to be an escapist, seeing my own problems on unfunny internet comics, but say “go be poor somewhere else” really wasn’t my intention with this post.

I have heard this sentiment before ie where people in stronger economic situations are more likely to birch endlesslly about class struggling while people beat down just need some escape.

You ain’t wrong we all got to cope.

The class struggle is just human condition. People have a right to cope as. They see fit.
