But if you mean actual confiscation a la Australia, pretty sure that’s off the table here. Sincerely think it’d spark a war no matter who sincerely attempts it or why.

That would be quite a lot of gun control, especially for the US. Even in the UK you can buy ammo, I’m not sure why because your certainly not allowed a gun.
