I’ve heard about this before, but I’m seriously looking into it as an option. But I have what I would consider to be an interesting situation and some noob questions.

Situation: My current cellular provider is T-Mobile USA and my current phone is a OnePlus Nord N200 5G (2021) running LineageOS 21 (android 14) with no gapps. For whatever reason, this device and ROM combination does not support voice over LTE (VoLTE), and so I am forced back to the 2G network every time I want to make or receive a phone call. Receiving text messages works fine, but sending them causes me issues. T-Moble, like all other carriers, is going to be shutting down their 2G network at some point in the future, which would leave me without the ability to call or text unless I’m on Wi-Fi and using Wi-Fi calling.

Questions:

  1. does JMP accept payments in Monero (XMR)
  2. If i were to get the 2GB T-Mobile tablet plan would I still be able to use the actual phone to dial 911 if necessary? From what I understand, any phone is required to be able to dial 911, whether it has a SIM card or not, or if it has service activated or not and on whatever network (Verizon, AT&T, DISH, or T-Mobile) can handle the call.

My biggest concern is the potential to not be able to dial emergency services if required.

My phone does have access to the 5G network, and on the stock ROM, it does have access to voiceover LTE. But for whatever reason, it just does not work on LineageOS at least with T-Mobile (I have not tried the others).

Edit:

  1. I saw something about an ESIM adapter that’s a regular SIM card that can have multiple ESIM profiles on it. Why can’t I just buy this directly? Because I don’t see any kind of shop link where I could just purchase this by itself.

Yes. It’s automated for top ups but not for signup yet, but you can contact support https://jmp.chat/faq#support to get an XMR address for signup purposes.

Carriers in USA are required by law to complete 911 calls even if you are not a customer and have no SIM card at all. So yes.

    You can: https://jmp.chat/esim-adapter
