So you appear to be one of those dorks who thinks that all political positions exist only as a binary, falling somewhere on a spectrum between liberal and conservative. This is fucking stupid. It’s not entirely your fault, since that’s all that’s allowed to be officially acknowledged in amerikkka, but really you should know better by now. Hell, you should know better simply by virtue of the fact you’re posting your ignorance on a communist website. So apparently I’ll be the first to inform you that both liberalism and conservatism are very similar rightwing ideologies, with conservatism being essentially another branch of liberalism. This is recognized by most of the rest of the world, even many other “LiBeRaL dEmOcRaCiEs.” As communists, anarchists, leftists in general, we wholly reject liberalism and that includes conservatism (conservatism itself still subscribes to almost all liberal doctrine such as worship of private property). See, learn something new every day. :new the-more-you-know

        • with conservatism being essentially another branch of liberalism.

It’s literally Conservative Liberalism. They just leave off the liberalism part to make people believe it’s something entirely different so they think they have a choice at the ballot box.

If you’re American then you’re a lib. Even the American nazis are libs. The far right in the states is still left of center. Face it America is a socialist country and all the people and all the parties are just slightly left of center. It’s a country of moderates.

“Conservative” is just a subgroup of liberal at this point, since there’s not a monarchist status quo for them to cleave to like “conservatives” in the 19th and early 20th centuries could in some places (note: this gets weird in liberal monarchies like the UK where the monarchist dictatorship is just an accepted part of liberalism). “Conservative” is just the sub-category of liberal that’s defined by being even more racist, chauvinist, and extremist than is typical of mainstream liberalism.

It’s not a binary, it’s not even a spectrum, it’s two competing blocs of one hard-right ideology.

Not only do the establishment liberals blame the working class, they see this election as a mandate for their party’s habit of ignoring that class altogether.

Americans REALLY don’t like taking about class because it lays bare the stark differences in people’s financial situations and those differences make people angry if they see that they’ve been screwed over; the article is advocating for a cultural sea change that I’d like to see but somehow keeps missing how deep it goes and doesn’t address it.

They’re so fucking whiny. They literally had a trifecta just over two years ago, and now they’re acting like politics is over.

I wish they would give up and let people who actually want to win get a chance. So sick of neoliberal “WE NEED YOUR MONEY OR TRUMP WILL EAT YOUR CHILDREN” bullshit. Give me an actual platform that doesn’t include genocide or throw queer/disabled/minorities under the bus and maybe you’ll actually have a chance? It’s so telling how they never address the eligible voters that refrain from doing so. There will always be non-voters because people are lazy but there’s millions that would if YOU ACTUALLY OFFERED THEM FUCKING ANYTHING.

“Trump is Not a Fluke — He’s America,” with a subhead intoning that “the country will get what it deserves,” Mystal writes: “We, as a nation, have proven ourselves to be a fetid, violent people…"

What, did you miss the part of her campaign where Kamala Harris said she wants to end the patriarchy by literally killing all men? Clearly misandry in the democratic party is a real and serious issue.

Seriously though, what the hell did the author mean by this?!

Misandry was probably a bad word to use. I’m not smart enough to explain it eloquently, but I think they’re trying to say that the liberal, “working class white male voters are the devil himself! Man, fuck poor white dudes,” rhetoric is partially a self-fulfilling prophecy. These are exactly the statements that manosphere dipshits like Alex Jones, Joe Rogan, Andrew Tate, et al point to when they say that men are being oppressed.

We aren’t oppressed because we’re men, of course. We’re in a shit situation because we’re fucking poor. But that disconnect between rhetoric ("The man on the TV said I’m a demon and this is my fault?) and material conditions (“But I’m poor as shit! I have to use food banks regularly!”) makes a lot of dudes vulnerable to toxic messaging that puts blame in all the wrong places.

IDK, it’s complicated, and I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around it or explaining my feelings. It’s like an ouroboros of rhetoric where liberals and conservatives are feeding each other with their own shit, to the detriment of everybody who isn’t rich.

tbh there’s a growing problem in leftist spaces where it isn’t clear where straight cishet white men fit in to it. Yes it makes sense to have certain spaces more geared towards, and to an extent exclusive towards women, people of color, queer people, and any combination there of, but it’s also necessary to have something for one of the most politically powerful groups in in society. In general actual leftists are better about being open to anyone, but liberals and liberals pretending to be anti-capitalist can get very suffering-olympics about it.

Do you ever think about how our intellectual ancestors a hundred years ago used to say it was “socialism or barbarism” and how we now live in that barbarism? And now we say we have to do something about climate change right now or it’s going to be like, very bad for human civilization, and all we have on our side is these fucking liberals? You campaigned with the Cheneys and lost and now it’s just fuck the working class.
