I’ve been checking out BlueSky for a few days just because a bunch of my long-distance friends are on it.
I have to admit, being able to only follow them and never see anything anyone else has to say unless my friends promote it is kind of nice when it comes to social media with people I have a personal connection with. I’m not big on microblogging, I just wasn’t able to keep up with Mastodon, let alone Twitter. But this works for me to talk to those friends for now.
Of course, I fully expect it to be enshittified eventually.
If it feels like old twitter now will it feel like new twitter eventually?
The medium is the message and the platform is the users.
The platform is the users but it’s also the owners. Twitter got a lot worse when Musk took over and started turning it into a Nazi propaganda platform even though the userbase didn’t immediately change.
