in many ways it’s just the logical consequence of popular culture being so dominated by celebrities and what they do: everything that happens between them must be scrutinized and taken with the utmost sincerity, even though it doesn’t really make sense for any person’s life to be analyzed in that way.
I wonder why they didn’t just ban him for life.
probably because he’s still in the prime years of his acting career (he’s 53 and it’s entirely conceivable he will win future awards) and the academy doesn’t exactly have a reason to come down so hard on its own.
