It’d be his first good punchline.

Nothing’s gonna happen. Puerto Ricans weren’t voting Trump in large numbers before, and libs making a huge stink about what a racist meanie Trump is just bolsters his numbers. I don’t think he has it in the bag, and this might cost him PA, but it might just even out across other swing states.

i don’t think pointing out that trump is a racist bolsters his numbers. all the racists are already voting for trump. it’s not as if there’s some racist undecided voter thinking “hmmm, you know, i was gonna possibly vote kamala, but when that blue haired lib called trump “velveeta voldemort” it really convinced me that he was my guy, as a fellow racist”

the only way i could think any racists are considering voting for kamala is if they think “hey wait, she’s a cop. who better to make the lives of minorities worse?” but no racist is capable of that complex of a thought

Yeah, there are, they still mostly vote Dem because the Democratic Party is a conservative party that promises them statehood. The only diaspora Puerto Ricans who were voting Trump before this are pain pigs that are still gonna vote for him regardless. As I said, the only swing state where there’s enough diaspora Puerto Ricans who are gonna be swayed in enough numbers to matter is PA. Trump getting this much media attention for free, and people seeing the libs cry? That’s definitely gonna motivate way more hogs to vote Trump to own the libs. It’s 2016 all over again.

Brother, it’s 2024, Jennifer Gonzalez is GOP and at least half of PNP is decidedly Repos now. There’s a significant population of Puerto Ricans in Michigan, Georgia, NC, Texas. The last election was decided in the 5 digits, I’m not saying any of this will matter or not, but it’s impossible to make a confident opinion if things are going to be as close as they have in the previous two cycles

The really funny thing that’s going to happen is that in a few days PR will seat its first pro Independence governor in its history.

Puerto Ricans are all US citizens, they can’t be “illegals” so I don’t think that logic applies in this case. If the comedian had similarly insulted Dominican Republic or Mexico or Venezuela, then what you describe would be the calculus.

In this case, I think all that matters is (1) how much PR republicans identify the comments with Trump versus with the “comedian” who said them, and (2) how much PR republicans can just do the cognitive dissonance thing Trump’s evangelical supporters do (many of whom are Puerto Rican).

Puerto Ricans mostly live in urban constituencies so their vote was going to the Democrats no matter what

I guess it would also depend on whether they equate the comedian with Trump directly or if they hate him but like Trump regardless.
