And the worst part is they’re gonna be allowed to try to replace people.

No matter how many times medical scientists will explain how sample analysis can’t be automated away, or artists point out how their process is more than just mushing together predigested art, or (in one particularly ghoulish example I saw) suicide hotlines can’t be replaced with chatbots.

The capitalist class is gonna jam generative AIs into places they don’t belong in their manic pursuit of free market efficiency and it’s gonna make everything worse and less convenient.

It isn’t just ruling class assholes believing this, either.

One of the worst computer toucher takes I’ve ever had to read here was someone saying that computer programming and specifically software engineering could, should, and very soon would replace the entirety of psychology and psychiatry because wildly waving hands dae le human brain is meat computer dae le problems in human brain are programming errors. jagoff

my partner’s company hired a CTO about 7 months ago in a bid to try to shore up their bullshit claims of using AI to help discover better drug building blocks quicker.

They made that claim from the inception of the company but never once did they actually have a working AI model that produced results even equal with pure chance.

The new CTO came in and said he could automate away the jobs of the medicinal chemists who are the ones who use their insight and knowledge to tweak molecules to actually find and test drug candidates. There was mutiny across the whole company as nobody in their right mind believes that it can be done, especially not in a cost effective way that isn’t just blindly brute forcing.

Now the company is on its last breath as they’ve laid off everyone except the top brass who are praying someone buys their non existent AI platform so they can get a little golden parachute.

AI is the new snake oil.
