prim is the best launcher imo, I wouldn’t use anything else personally.
Functions great. I just wish the UI was a bit nicer in terms of look and how things are arranged (there’s some redundancy and strange placements). Though I did read on the Discord that some of the devs wanted to rewrite the UI code in Qt’s QML, so maybe that would coincide with some UI changes.
Yes, we are planning a qml rewrite, this will likely take a while to fully release, it’s not next version since it would basically be an entire rewrite if I understand our plans correctly. This means that we would have significant changes in the ui and hopefully for the better, I agree the current is subpar.
I’ll be working on rewriting the website and documentation framework before 10.0 then I’ll start some mockups for our new qml design.
There’s a couple other neat things that have been discussed that may be possible with a qml rewrite (no plans yet) such as compiling to mobile. Main benefits are responsiveness and consistency that can be achieved as well as cleaning up many things from the aging codebase since it would likely be a full rewrite.

Bit of a leftover from MultiMC, but functionally has always been far far ahead of other mod managers, including Mojang’s terrible attempts. Unfortunately I quit MC for quite a while before all the drama with the developer so I never really had much use for Prism Launcher.
For some reason it doesn’t work on my ububtu 24.04 (Gnome) and I’ve already tried different things to try to get it to work, but it just wouldn’t, so I’m using atlauncher which is very similar though texture packs aren’t 100% as good
What method did you use for install? Ubuntu shows a snap version in their store, its not official and maintained by Ubuntu not us. We have found it has a fair few issues that aren’t present in other packages.
I would reccomend downloading from flathub which you would need to setup manually on Ubuntu. Otherwise our appimage on our website https://prismlauncher.org
We do also have a third party build that is more stable then the snap for Ubuntu on makedeb.

How does it fail exactly? As I recall, flatpak aren’t distro dependent.
have you tried the flatpak? it should include any dependencys you need. im on arch and it works great from the aur, but i know that does not really help you.
Yes I have and much more
So Prism Launcher is a Minecraft launcher.
Some context in the post would have been nice.
theres no option to update inside the launcher, i take it? gotta uninstall 8.3 and install 9?
What OS are you running? On Windows, there’s an updater. Probably same for MacOS.
If you install the tar.gz on Linux, there’s an updater. If you have the flatpak, you update through flatpak. Distro packages get updated by the distro.
