to the best of my knowledge, the name “Red Sails” derives from Roderic Day’s affinity for Black Sails which he argues is an allegory for the Russian revolution, with Flint as a Lenin figure

Thinly disguised allegory about the Russian Revolution set in the fictional pirate republic of Nassau.
It’s got imperialist siege, purges, civil war, famine, support for anti-colonial revolutions… remarkably complete.
