I link to articles from both. I don’t know the background to what is happening at the intercept, but it still is publishing a lot of good articles. Seems like drop site and zeteo got some good people from the intercept.

The problem with Zeteo is their paywall. I just posted an article from them, and got many complaints.

TheIntercept’s board of directors basically started hiring a lot of marketing folks. and less journalists. Ken Klippenstein made a great blog about it when he left. TheIntercepts journalism has become a lot tamer as well. Since their largest donor stopped funding them they started losing money.

Ryan Grim and Jeremy Scahill offered to buy out TheIntercept but the board of directors refused (because they would kick them out lol) so now they made Dropsite.

Zeteo is great but Mehdi Hassan is still leaning Blue MAGA. In the end it doesn’t matter whether he tells people israel is comitting Genocide when he will still tell people to vote for the people responsible for the Genocide (Democrats). Different rhetoric, same actions.

Thanks for the reply. The only problem with Drop Site for me is that they are under Substack, and lemmy.world community admins will remove posts because they consider Substack a “blog” site, not a news site. (same for Zeteo).

I’m still struggling with who to vote for in November. I despise Harris but I truly think that Trump will go much farther than any previous President to trash democratic rights and electoral integrity (as much or little as that is).

There are other differences that are important, such as the NLRB - Biden put in basically pro-union admins and staff, and that has had a big effect on some of the recent union organizing victories. Climate change is another big difference, although the Dems are now boasting about how pro-fracking they are.

I know the Democrats and Republicans are both capitalist parties, and I want to see a workers/labor/socialist party to build and vote for. The Greens have a lot of good positions, but I don’t know if they are the ones that could initiate a mass left/labor party.

I want the space and rights to fight another day, and Harris would be more advantageous for that. If it wasn’t for that, it would be a slam dunk for the Greens.

The genocide in Gaza is clearly the overriding moral issue of our time, and that is another reason why I would like to help punish the Democrats for their disgusting and shameful hypocrisy. (But I also have concerns that I raised above.)

I find the discussion in the Fediverse on this topic to be usually too hostile and one-dimensional. Pro-Harris: “you fucking morons, do you really want Trump?” Anti-Harris: “you gutless swine, you’re supporting genocide.” Between the 2 sides, I have much more sympathy for the anti-Harris position, but it needs to go beyond moral outrage into some strategy to make fundamental change.

The moral dillemma about ‘lesser evils’ is already answered. Everyone rallied behind Biden in 2020 to prevent Trump from doing something insane like supporting a literal Genocide. To prevent giving a win to the Republican like 2000 George Bush who would invade Iraq because ‘too many people voted Green’. Even the Greens did not mount a fierce opposition, very intentionally.

Then we did it Reddit. We beat Trump! We got got Joe Biden! No crazy Genocide orange man!..

          We got Genocide Joe.

There is no moral dilemma left. A vote for Democrat is a direct vote for Genocide.
